Doctor
Dr. Zapata came from Mexico City. He graduated from Universidad Intercontinental in 1985 and spent a year as an assistant professor in the Preventive Dentistry Department at the School of Dentistry.
He moved to Cancun in 1986 and established a family dental practice. He moved to Indianapolis with his family for 3 years in 1995 to get a specialty degree in Periodontics and a Master of Science in Dentistry. While in Indianapolis he did a 6 month rotation at the Riley Children´s Hospital, where he treated handicapped patients. He has 2 minor specialties, Oral Pathology and Preventive and Community Dentistry, and is certified in Implant placement.
Continuing education is important for Dr. Zapata. With constant improvements in equipment, materials, and techniques, it is vitally important to commit time to keep learning. As a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, Dr. Zapata shows his belief in continuing education.
Dr. Zapata attends many hours of courses, meetings and symposiums in Mexico and the U.S every year, far beyond the necessary amount required to maintain licensure. They include lectures, hands-on courses, and practice management programs. He also gives time to educate the dental profession, giving lectures every year.
Dr. Zapata is co-founder of Mas Conocimiento (More Knowledge), a study group that met once a week to keep up to date in the ever changing world of Oral Health. He also edits a Perio-Dental Newsletter that he has been sending monthly to the dental community in Cancun for the past 19 years, and a patient newsletter called Healthy Smile.
Dr. Zapata works very closely with his team of excellent Oral Health Specialists, including Endodontics, Orthodontics, Restorative Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery to ensure that patients receive the very best in dental treatment in their goal to achieve a beautiful, functional and healthy smile.
Dr. Zapata is also very involved in the sport of football, his 30 year old son played more than 10 years as a center, defensive tackle and tight-end but is now a Medical Doctor in his 3rd year OB-Gyne residency in Mexico City.
His 22 and 20 year old daughters, soon to start College to be Montessori teacher and soon to start College in Sustainable Resources Administration, and his wife of 33 years played as cornerback, cornerback/wide receiver and center/quarteback in flag football. Dr. Zapata is always promoting oral health and safety in contact sports, providing mouth-guards to the players and information to the League, team managers and the coaches, as well as to the players families.
Dr. Zapata is a teacher of Preventive Dentistry at Universidad Anahuac Cancun in the 2nd semester class.
